5 objections to using verbal reports as data

Via Protocol Analysis: Verbal Reports as Data,
  1. Verbal reports may alter task performance
  2. Verbal reports may yield an insufficiently complete record of cognitive processes
  3. Verbal and non-verbal processes and behaviours may be independent
  4. Verbal reports may only reflect the unique experiences of individuals and are therefore not generalisable
  5. We might not be able to encode verbal reports in a sound, objective way
