"Where do you want to go?"
"I don't know. Where do you want to go?"
"I don't know. How about Cafe Bob's?"
"Cafe Bob is kind of far for me. What about Alice's Joint?"
"That's kind of far for me..."
etc...Let me describe an alternative sequence of events that I would prefer:
- I open up an app on my iPhone: Restaurant in the Middle
- I send a message to my friend through the app which returns with her location
- (ALTERNATIVE) I enter her location in the app manually
- The app calculates the midpoint between us and searches for nearby places to eat
- We select a place to meet
- The app shows us walking directions
Other thoughts:
- Allow for setting and storing preferences
- Just meet at the midpoint and pick a place when we get there
- Filters for different types of places: lunch, dinner, chocolate, etc.
- Handle more than 2 people in more than 2 locations
Key assumptions:
- The places in the middle are not all crappy.
- My friends will actually agree to choose a place in the middle.
- There is sufficient local restaurant data available. Google Places? Factual? Query string on Google Maps?
- We are in the same suburb. I don't really see this approach being used across suburbs and definitely not across cities.
Next up: some interaction design sketches
