Retrospectives should not be about sharing pain

Retrospectives should not be about sharing pain and venting.

Retrospectives should be about getting better.

I agree that retrospectives shouldn't be about venting. Part of a retrospective should be the sharing of stories, including painful ones, though. If someone felt pain, the team needs to know it and ideally be able to empathize. The team needs to "own" the pain, to then be able to take responsibility for it, and shift focus to identifying its cause(s), and to decide what to do about it.
